We finished up at Ty’s place around 10, the hotel is cancelled and we’re heading straight to the track. Will’s gonna drive the whole way (don’t worry, he’ll have lots of caffeine), and I’m going to get some sleep so I can drive tomorrow.
The work completed was:
- Vented hood; there is now a large vent just over top of the exhaust manifold to extract heat from the engine bay using the low pressure wake from the front bumper. Its working well already, air coming into the cabin from the firewall holes is cool when cruising on the highway.
- Repair trailer; we had both stub axles crack from excessive oscillation on the concrete highways. Its a rough repair using a flux core welder, but its welded up and gussetted, so we won’t lose the trailer.
- Install larger intercooler reservoir; we have a full size cooler secured in the spare tire well with barb fittings plumbed to the IC water pump. We can fit 3 times as much ice than before.
- Ate dinner; we great sandwiches from Wisconsin’s famous Jimmy John’s restaurant. I had one with half a dozen types of cold cuts on it – yum!
- Check out Ty’s crazy custom bike build with a R1 motor; very cool!
Results have been posted. Road America full track we didn’t fare well, but we picked it up in the afternoon on the short track. Will managed a session time of 5:28.587, putting us 12th overall and 1st in class. This means we’re sitting in 16th overall and 1st in class after 2 days of competition! We are pumped, and excited to see if we can move up further tomorrow.
